Grasshoppers tennis club in Hove combines tennis of all standards with a vibrant social life.  For complete beginners and people who have not played for a while and so are a bit "rusty" there are pay and play Friday evening sessions, for regular players there are club sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday morning and for the keenest players there are fixtures against other clubs and additional team practice sessions on Monday evening (ladies) and Wednesday evening (men).  For everyone there is an active social life throughout the year with drinks and snacks at the bar on all club sessions and one or more social events most months throughout the year.
Grasshoppers Lawn Tennis Club was first established in Brighton, on the English south coast, in 1881. Originally located in the grounds of the Royal Pavilion, it moved to its present site in Hove in 1916. The club has an intimate and friendly atmosphere throughout the year.

2008 Christmas Party

Grasshoppers is often looking for new members, so if you are interested in our club, this site should give you a taste of what we have to offer.
Grasshoppers has three hard courts and a club house.  The courts were re-surfaced and re-painted in 2003 and floodlights for all courts were updated in 2004.  The floodlights can be used up to 10:00 in the evening.

The bar in the clubhouse is well stocked and open Monday to Friday in the evening and Sunday lunchtime.

  Types of membership
The main types of membership are Full member, country member, Family membership, Student member and Social member.

Membership rates 2008/09 season

  How to Join
Due to the number of courts available and the demand for them by members, it is unfortunately not possible to cater for either juniors or complete novices on regular club sessions but see "Friday evenings" below.

Essentially, the process of joining the club involves dropping in on a club night to have a look around and meet the members there; bring your tennis kit and you can play as a visitor.  If you like you can use the contact us link to let us know you are coming so we can look out for you.

The club's location and contact details are on the Contact Us page of this site.

The Weekly Schedule
Tuesday
and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. are club nights when club members can turn up and get a game, playing with a whole variety of different opponents and partners (though abilities are matched as far as possible). These games are usually doubles to achieve maximum utilisation of the courts. Sundays are the same as club nights but start at 10:30 and often carry on into the afternoon. On Wednesday night and sometimes Monday night there are match practice sessions for club team players getting ready to play another club.

Friday Evenings
For complete beginners, less serious players or those who are just a bit rusty we run a special Friday evening session when the emphasis is on fun as well as improvement.  Anyone of any standard is welcome on these sessions which start at 6:30 p.m., just turn up with your kit and you will be found a game which suits you.

Individual help is also available from our qualified coaches

The club sessions continue summer and winter, fair weather or foul!

There are also numerous tournaments within the club that culminate in the grand Finals Day that takes place the first weekend in September
