Extra Wimbledon Tickets for purchase (Court 1 on the last weekend)

We have been given the opportunity for members to purchase Wimbledon tickets through the club for court 1 on the last weekend.  I must stress that these extra tickets are not returnable and, if ordered but then later not required, those members who have ordered them will be responsible for full payment .

Also these are not transferable so whoever orders them must be absolutely certain that THEY wish to go. As usual they are in pairs and we must know if you wish to take up this offer by this Friday (20th January) at the very latest. If not we then lose the opportunity.

Sorry if this sounds draconian but this is the way the LTA works with Wimbledon tickets !

1) Court cleaning
The courts will be sprayed with a fungicide today (Monday 16th January) prior to being power washed next week.  As the balls will pick up some of the fungicide you should avoid rubbing your eyes or mouth and wash your hands after playing for a day or two or until it has rained.  The plan is to repaint the courts in the spring.

2012 Dieppe Weekend
3 dates have been put forward for the Dieppe trip this year, to be organised by Nathalie and I.  The first is the weekend of 1-3 June the other 2 are in August 17-19th and 24-26th assuming these dates are ok for the French.  The general consensus so far is that the June date is better.

However note that this year due to our beloved Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Monday and Tuesday, 4 and 5th June are bank holidays.  This may represent an opportunity for those that want to stay longer as it would appear that the ferry and hotels have not increased their prices accordingly.  Moreover those that could not get Friday off last year may be able to come out on the Saturday and stay a few days leaving on the Monday or Tuesday.  I think also the general consensus last year was to have less formal dinners all together with perhaps one main dinner plus the tennis element.

It would be good to get some feedback on the June date please and a likely indication of numbers.

Boxing Day tournament
We will be holding an American Tournament on Boxing day to shake down the Christmas fare, everyone is welcome including Friday nighters (£5 visitor fee for non-members).

Annual Dinner and Dance Friday 11th November at the Grand Hotel Arrive 7pm – sit down 7:30pm – carriages at 1pm

Cheques for £40 per person should be made payable to Grasshoppers LTC and can be given to a committee member in the clubroom or posted to Carol Woodman at 1725 Cottage. 1. Salmon and Haddock Fishcake, anchovy, caper, shallot & pea shoot salad, lemon mayonnaise

2. field mushroom risotto with Sussex Camembert

Main Course

1. Rump of lamb with red wine sauce, mint mash, honey roast carrots

2. fillet of Sea Bass, sauce Duglere, lemon crushed potatoes and grilled asparagus

Vegetarian option Tarte Tatin of red onion & balsamic, Rosti and creamed leeks

Dessert

1. Classic lemon tart, blueberry sauce

2. Choice of selected cheeses

If you wish to make your own table of 8-10 persons please email the names for the whole table to the above email addresses as soon as possible.

Carol has made a special arrangement for their house wine (Il Banchetto - red or white) at £15 per bottle if pre-ordered for a table (£18 if bought on the day). Please pay Carol or Debra in advance if you would like to take advantage of this offer.

Winter Mixed Doubles
The entry sheet for the winter mixed tournament will be on the club notice board from this weekend (8th October), so please enter your name (together with that of your partner)  on the sheet  or email me if you would like to enter. Closing dates for entries is 31 October 2011 after which the draw for the group stages will be done.
